Good evening one and all,
It has been quite some time since I have updated this blog. You can be certain that I am preparing new posts on topics in medieval and early modern literature for future discussion. In the meantime – there is some news to share.
I have decided to open The Merry Devil’s Reveries to new contributors! You can expect a wide range of topics from the literary, cultural studies to current affairs. If you would like to pitch a topic to me – please submit a paragraph or two (app. 250 words) about what you’d like to write about to firstname.lastname@example.org and I will do my best to review your proposal in a timely manner! This blog is about to cover a great deal more than I had originally intended – being initially a blog specifically about early English theatre. I no longer think that those constraints are in the best interests of this blog and that this was only ever intended as a point of departure – not the destination!
In the coming weeks, you will be able to expect posts about poetry, music, and perhaps cinema. As promised, my next post will be a general introduction to medieval poetry (a seemingly impossible task as I read that sentence). It will likely focus on a few select case studies rather than present an exhaustive overview of the field.
It is extremely important to note too that this blog is not academic in nature. While many of the pieces published may be written in an academic style, The Merry Devil’s Reveries encourages and welcomes submissions from all community members who would like to share their thoughts on the stranger things of culture!
General topics for potential starting points include: Art history, literary and cultural studies, philosophy, film, music, theatre and performance arts. Especially cool if you’re able to explore connections to the pre-modern world!
Thank you so very much for your patience. We will meet again
